って概念を俺はそんなに理解していなかったらしい。

ベンチマークとはなんだ!??

なんかうまく掴めないんだよなぁ・・・

もともとは何だっけな。。。ベンチに足の跡をつけてなんたらってとこから来たんだったと思う

「ベンチマーキング」とは、競争力を強化するために主業務プロセスについて世界最高水準を目標として、もっとも優れたプロセス(ベスト・プラクティクス)を自社に導入する経営管理手法です。

他社事例から自社とのギャップ分析を行い、当該ギャップを改善しながら業務プロセスを変革していきます。
この「ベンチマーキング」が広く知られるようになったのは、1989年に米ゼロックス社が全米品質大賞(マルコム・ボリドリッジ賞)を受賞したことに始まります。
同社は、当時日本のコピーメーカー(キャノン、リコーなど)に席巻され、80%もあったシェアが10%台に急減してしまいました。
その危機感から、ライバルである日本企業を分析し、ベスト・プラクティクスを自社に取り込み、シェア低下に歯止めをかけることに成功しました。
ゼロックス社が当該経営革新手法を「ベンチマーキング」と名づけ、全米に急速に広がりました。

ゼロックス社の主な「ベンチマーキング」実例は以下の通りです。

□品質 → 日本企業全般(日本のTQC活動)
□製造 → 日本企業全般(かんばん方式)
□カスタマーサービス → アメリカン・エキスプレス社(対応から解決までのスピード)
□在庫管理 → LLビーン社(倉庫から注文品を取り出すレスポンス)
□発送 → キャタピラー社(大きな製品の発送)、アメリカン・ホスピタル・サプライ社(小さな製品の発送)

「ベンチマーキング」の導入は、自社が他社より劣っていることを認めることです。
世界一を自負していたアメリカにとっては、認めがたいことであり、特に王者として君臨していたゼロックス社にとって苦渋の経営戦略でした。
当時のCEOであるデビット・カーン氏は「ベンチマーキング」とともに、従業員の経営参加を推進させ、経営危機を乗り越えました。
